During the Spring Semester of 2015, a group of students enrolled in Dr. Bejarano’s Women Crossing Borders class worked to create a transnational day of solidarity.
On May 4, 2016, the first Transnational Solidarity Day was officially recognized (see proclamation below) and facilitated by students from Dr. Bejarano’s Women & Human Rights course.
This proclamation supports social justice efforts that recognize femicide, sexual assaults and other atrocities, in hopes to eliminate gender-based violence around the World.
Since then, yearly action has continued on the day and through other outreach efforts connected to TSD, such as Dr. Bejarano's continued support of the J. Paul Taylor Social Justice Symposium and the 2022 #SolidarityShorts program for the Feminist Border Arts Film Festival. Learn more about past TSD events.
